NEW 6 week hand building course May/Jun

What could be nicer than exploring the world of clay with your hands. This beginners course top hand building will introduce you to all the key hand building techniques; coiling, slab building, moulds, slip casting and free sculpture. Each week we will explore a new hand building technique. We will understand the tools, techniques and practice of handling the clay, mark making, designing and creating a hand built item from scratch. With a demonstrations every week this fun filled course is designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to the power of your hands and clay. Although the course has a clear structure you will be able to decide whetehr you wish to make a set of pieces, such as tableware or more decorative pieces, so you can add your style and imagination to the course. As the course progresses, I will share my knowledge of surface decoration; including; coloured slips, underglazes, glazes as well as carving, sgraffito and inlays. At the end of each session you will have produced and decorated at least one piece included in the price, as well as enjoyed tuition and refreshments with friends. Each class is 3 hours including preparation and clean up. Clay is messy! so please wear old clothes and bring your own apron. This new course starts on Thursday 1st May then 8th, 15th, 22nd, then 5th & 6th June. Please note there is no class wc 26th May.
