Enjoy this relaxed class as you explore the ancient art of Sgraffito (scratching design into leather hard clay). You will work on two platters each. You can make a set for each other or swap one plate each so that you have the prefect memento of Mother's Day. Working on slab built platters, you will be able to explore the technique of free hand surface design. Choose your background colour from a range of coloured slips (liquid clay). After applying you will be then able to scratch your surface design into the platter. Your design can be as personal as you, and you can choose from geometric shapes to free hand images and pictures. There will be a full demonstration or a variety of different carving and sgraffito techniques. A wonderful centre piece for your table, in white stoneware, to really show off your creative abilities, ready for your summer entertaining. At the end of the session you will have produced two platters , all included in the price, as well as enjoyed some Prosecco and nibbles within a small group setting in the studio. This is a 2.5 hour introduction to hand building, including 30 minutes for preparation and clean up. Understand the tools, techniques and practice of mark making, designing a hand built item. Clay is messy! so please wear old clothes and bring your own apron. For further information regarding what you need to bring please ensure you read our sections on health and safety and studio use.
