What could be nicer than exploring the world of clay with your hands. This beginners course to coil hand building will introduce you to my technique of hand building large sculptural forms. In the course you will cover the following:- Week 1 Batch creating coils, preparing clay, and creating your first smaller vessel Week 2: creating a larger sculptural piece, learning how to manipulate, stretch and mold your form. Practice carving techniques on your week 1 piece Week 3: carving your large form Week 4: Glazing your piece We will understand the tools, techniques and practice of handling the clay, mark making, designing and creating a hand built item from scratch. With a demonstrations every week this fun filled course is designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to the power of your hands and clay. Although the course has a clear structure you will be able to decide the shape and form of your coil creation. As the course progresses, I will share my knowledge of surface decoration; including; coloured slips, underglazes, glazes as well as carving and sgraffito. Each class is 3 hours including preparation and clean up. Clay is messy! so please wear old clothes and bring your own apron.
