Enjoy this relaxed evening as you explore the ancient art of Sgraffito (scratching design into leather hard clay). Working on a thrown central platter you will be able to explore the technique of free hand surface design. Choose your background colour from a range of coloured slips (liquid clay). After applying you will be then able to scratch your surface deign into the platter. Your design can be as personal as you, and you can choose from geometric shapes to free hand images and pictures. You will be able to practice first on a small coaster size piece to get used to the technique before you plan out your main platter. There will be a full demonstration or a variety of different carving and sgraffito techniques. A wonderful center piece for your table, in white stoneware, to really show off your creative abilities, ready for your summer entertaining.At the end of the session you will have produced one platter , all included in the price, as well as enjoyed some Prosecco and nibbles within a small group. This is a 2.5 hour introduction to hand building, plus 30 minutes for preparation and clean up. Understand the tools, techniques and practice of mark making, designing a hand built item. Clay is messy! so please wear old clothes and bring your own apron. For further information regarding what you need to bring please ensure you read our sections on health and safety and studio use.
